The process begins with a 4-inch crushed concrete base, which is compacted using a power roller to create a stable, even surface. Once the masonry work is complete, we return to regrade the base, followed by another round of power rolling to ensure maximum compaction and stability.

Next, we install a 2-inch layer of asphalt blacktop and power roll once again, leaving the surface smooth and ready for years of use. Our thorough approach guarantees a long-lasting and beautiful driveway that will withstand the test of time and heavy traffic.

Laying the Groundwork for Your New Driveway

The first step in creating your new paver driveway is demolishing and removing the existing asphalt and subbase. Once the old materials are carted away, we compact the underlying soil to ensure a stable foundation. A new RCA (Recycled Concrete Aggregate) subbase is then added, which is compacted with a power roller to create a solid surface.

To further strengthen the base, we recommend parking on it for 2-3 weeks to allow it to settle completely before installing the new asphalt. If you’re expanding your driveway into an area that was previously lawn, we’ll also remove all the soil to ensure proper preparation. This meticulous base prep ensures a strong foundation that will support your new driveway for years to come.

Enhancing Your Driveway with Masonry Features

Once the old driveway is removed and the new base is in place, you have the option to elevate your driveway’s design by adding masonry elements. This includes features like decorative borders, aprons, curbing, or custom inlays that add both style and function. Options such as paver borders, paver aprons, or Belgium block curbs are installed on a sturdy concrete subbase, ensuring they remain securely in place.

Laying New Asphalt: The Final Step

The asphalt is then applied and spread either with a pave box or hand raked, depending on the size of the driveway. Spread at 2 inches thick, it’s compacted down to about 1.5 inches, providing the ideal thickness for a durable, long-lasting surface.

Caring for Your New Asphalt

Once your new asphalt driveway is complete, it’s important to wait 4 to 7 days before driving on it to prevent tire imprints from the heat. If you’re considering sealcoating for extra protection, we recommend waiting at least 2 years or until the aggregate starts to show and the asphalt begins to fade from its rich black color. This ensures a longer-lasting and well-protected driveway.

During this curing period, it’s also a good idea to avoid placing heavy objects or making sharp turns on the driveway to prevent unnecessary damage. Over time, regular maintenance such as sealcoating will help preserve the asphalt’s appearance and durability, extending its lifespan. By following these guidelines, you’ll ensure that your driveway remains smooth, strong, and visually appealing for years to come.
